Most of the buildings in the center of Varna date back to the first half of the 20th century. This one has been beautifully reconstructed with a facade painted in bright yellow and blue. The building houses a bank and various offices.

Varna under Reconstruction

The city center of Varna may look like one big excavation site but it is finally getting a much needed 'facelift'. A large section of Varna's main shopping street is currently closed for the public and all the old tiles are being replaced. I guess, work will be finished within a few months. The red building in the distance houses the Varna theater, opera and philharmonic orchestra. The building was constructed in the 1930s and is considered one of the most beautiful theater buildings in Bulgaria.

Bulgaria's Black Sea Coast

Black Sea

This is the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. The pictures were shot in Krapetz, Northern Bulgaria. Krapetz is a small village with little more than 200 inhabitants. There is a wide, sandy beach nearby. A local entrepreneur has also built a hotel in the village center a couple of years ago. However, mass tourism has not reached this part of Bulgaria and the village has preserved its pristine character and looks so far.

The current (old) terminal of Varna Airport seen from the runway. Fraport, the airport operator, is currently constructing a new terminal next to the old one. The new terminal is expected to open later in the summer of 2013.
