Remembering the Beatles

The Beatles spent almost two years in Hamburg in the early days of their career. They were performing in various bars and clubs in Hamburg's notorious St. Pauli neighborhood.

Nowadays, a small square in St Pauli bears the name of the Beatles. Beatles-Platz also features a small memorial in the form of four silhouettes.

The former main post office (German: Alte Oberpostdirektion) in Stephansplatz, Hamburg. The building was designed by Julius Carl Raschdorff and constructed in the period 1883-1887. The facade is decorated with sculpture groups which represent the benefits of post, telegraphy and telephony. The central tower is topped by a statue of a flying Mercury, the Greek messenger of the Gods speeding through the skies.

Jet d'eau Hamburg

The water fountain in the Binnenalster (Inner Alster) of Hamburg is a smalle version of the Jet d'eau in Geneva. In Hamburg, the water is jetted to an altitude of 60 meters, as apposed to 140 meters in Geneva. This has to do with the windy weather in Hamburg. Nevertheless, the view is simply astonishing.
