Phoenician Marine Wall - Batroun, Lebanon

The ancient maritime wall built by the phoenicians in Batroun, Lebanon.

Batroun is a charming small town in north Lebanon. The town lies on the coast, some 50 km to the north of Beirut.

The major thing to see in Batroun is the maritime wall which was built by the ancient Phoenicians to protect them against sea storms and invaders.

The marine wall in Batroun has been constructed of hard sand rocks. It is more than 200 meters long and from 1to1,5m thick.

Here are some pictures of the wall which I shot during a day trip to Batroun in February 2013.

Yes, it was February but as you can see from the pictures, the weather was fantastic!

The sight is really impressing... only to get spoiled by rubbish from a nearby construction site.

The coast in Batroun is quite rocky and moonlike.
